A new document has been produced by Ecams (they run Eco-Schools) which considers how various schemes such as Eco-Schools; Healthy Schools; International School Award; Rights Respecting Schools Award; RSPB Wildlife Action Awards might contribute to Sustainable Schools. Human Rights are Our Rights

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Amnesty International is launching a new DVD pack for young people, Human Rights are Our Rights. This resource is aimed at age 13 upwards and contains 2 films with a lesson plan and background notes and will be available from September onwards. To order a copy call 017488 545553. Introduction to UNICEF's Rights Respecting Schools Award

October 14th 2008 from 2-3:30pm at Teesside One World Centre. Lunch will be provided and available from 1pm. This meeting is aimed at members of the SMT at schools interested in learning more about UNICEF's Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) and will introduce the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as the RRSA. Four Durham schools have been awarded level 1 this term (2 primaries, 1 infant and a secondary special school).UNICEF UK and Teesside One World Centre are keen to work with other schools in the North East by developing clusters of schools and offering free training and support through termly cluster meetings. Makutano Junction on-line Resources

Excerpts from Makutano Junction, the Kenyan produced TV soap opera, are available online at www.makutanojunction.org.uk where there are also pilot lesson plans which can be downloaded. Set in a fictional Kenyan village, Makutano Junction follows the loves and lives of a colourful cast whilst enabling secondary schools opportunity to build a global dimension into their curriculum using innovative teaching materials that use Makutano Junction as their core. Makutano Junction is a cross curriculum dimension resource relevant for KS3 and 4 covering Geography, English, Citizenship, Media Studies, ICT, RE and PSHE.

Develop the Global Dimension across the Curriculum using an Exciting Media Project

Makutano Junction is a Global Dimension project for Secondary Schools based on a Kenyan TV soap opera which can be used in Geography, English/Drama, Citizenship, Media Studies and ICT. We are looking for schools across the North East interested in committing to at least the equivalent of 6 lessons to the project during 2008/9. Global School Partnerships Online Introductory Workshop

Global Study Planner

The Global Study Planner, produced by Look Out Learning for DFID, will give schools the opportunity to replace their current student, school or homework diary with a planner that raises important questions through full-colour features on global issues. The planner is in a ring-binder which can be re-used each year. The accompanying website has templates for useful pages that you can download and print.
