OWNNE regularly run global dimension workshops and networks, our upcoming events are listed below. We can also adapt the content of a workshop to work directly with an individual school or cluster of schools. We can also be commissioned to deliver the workshops for a specific local authority.

Free one day professional development workshop covering the principles, educational benefits and practicalities of global school partnerships. The workshop is for school staff who are interested in establishing, or have recently initiated, a Global School Partnership. It will also cover details of applying for grant funding.

Global School Partnerships is a highly successful school linking programme. Many schools in the North East have taken advantage of the programme to establish educational, equitable and sustainable school partnerships

Fairtrade

Join us and other schools from your area for a free twilight session to learn practical ways to help your pupils learn about Fairtrade and support your school to work towards the Fairtrade School Award. This session will focus on activities to bring the issues into subjects across the curriculum. You will leave with resources and ideas and hopefully be inspired to apply for the award!

All sessions will run from 16:00 to 17:30 (...and will include some Fairtrade refreshments!)

Diversity in the UK – Investigating who we are (KS2)

“The curriculum offers (pupils) insufficient insights into the experience of other communities and faiths within the UK.” (North East Primary School, Ofsted 2009) 
 
This half-day workshop will improve your skills, knowledge and confidence to teach about diversity in the UK and equip you with resources to develop the curriculum.          
 
The workshop includes:
  • Strategies to teach about diversity and controversial issues and to put them in to practice.
  • Recommended resources and background information about the cultures, communities and faiths in the UK and North East.

This network aims to support teachers that have been given the role of global / international / sustainability / rights coordinator in their school. The network will provide the opportunity for such coordinators to develop their skills and knowledge and stay up to date with the latest resources, opportunities and policy and to share their experience and learn from other coordinators.

One World Network North East is coordinated this network on behalf of Durham’s Education Development Service. The network is free for schools that are partners/affiliates of Durham’s Education Development Service, but it is also open to schools from across the region.

Understanding Children’s Rights - Local to Global
 
 
Explore children’s rights globally and help your colleagues and pupils understand local to global connections.
 
 
SEAL and the Global Dimension
 
This workshop will introduce a range of SEAL & Global Dimension resources developed as part of a project by DECSY (a development education centre in Sheffield. It is aimed at primary and secondary practitioners, ITE providers and advisers and will help participants to develop confidence in the delivery of cross-curricular and skills based learning.
 
 
Assessing Global Citizenship: How do we know it's working?
 
This course will provide an opportunity for Citizenship teachers and coordinators from all key stages and advisory teachers to explore practical and engaging activities for assessing the impact of global citizenship.
 
Learning objective:
To develop skills in assessing the impact of global citizenship work on pupils’ attitudes and values.
Participants will take away a copy of the new resource, “How do we know it’s working?”, a toolkit for measuring attitudinal change in global citizenship from early years to KS5.
