ONE WORLD NETWORK NORTH EAST

About One World Network North East

Background
OWNNE has been supporting schools in the North East to develop a global dimension in the curriculum since 2002. Over that time we have worked with over a quarter of the region's schools through our workshop programme, projects and professional development work.

OWNNE was setup to deliver the Department for International Development's (DFID) Enabling Effective Support programme. The programme aimed to develop the capacity and infrastructure of state and voluntary sector organisations in the region to support schools in the North East to embed the global dimension into the curriculum.

Our funding from DFID came to an end in August 2010. Through our Enabling Effective Support work in the North East we helped to:

  • Raise the profile of the global dimension with schools and local authorities in the region;
  • Build the infrastructure of support available to schools through local authorities and voluntary sector organisations;
  • Have impact in schools and with young people by supporting schools to embed a global dimension into the curriculum.
In 2009 the PNE Group (www.pne.org) was commissioned to undertake a review of the impact of our school support work, you can read a summary of the report or download the full evaluation report here.

For more information see our final Enabling Effective Support report for DFID.

How does OWNNE support schools?
We can facilitate staff meetings and professional development around the global dimension and can support individuals or groups of teachers with curriculum planning to develop the global dimension in schemes of work.

OWNNE also runs a range of professional development workshops and training sessions throughout the year; see our
events page for details of upcoming events. Our projects page gives details of global dimension projects that schools can get involved with.

To keep up to date with events and opportunities in the region sign up for our half-termly e-newsletter. If you are thinking about how you can develop the global dimension, please contact us and we can discuss how we can best support you.
